Klat - "Calcinatio"

Calcinatio is a performance by the group of artists from Geneva KLAT that consists of burning a traditional Swiss bonfire (bûcher). As background music, there is a concert or hardcore experimental soundtrack by the drummer Mikel Etxegarai (ex Gutariko Bat, Voodoo Muzak, Kobak), and Xabi Erkizia/Xabi Iturria on computers (Kobak, organisers of the ERTZ festival in Bera).
On the esplanade in Sagües, at the end of La Zurriola beach, between the sea and Mount Ulía, the members of KLAT build a bonfire with about two hundred logs. With a hexagonal base and a "chimney" in the rising up middle, this is the Swiss bûcher that is put up on Midsummer's Day and on other important dates. It's really folkloric: there are competitions for the best bonfire, displays of imagination and creativity, Miss bûcher, etc., and these log bonfires can reach up to 15 metres in height.
With Calcinatio, KLAT want to establish a connection with popular imagery and the hypnotic fascination with fire and its symbolism. This, combined with a hardcore drum soundtrack, creates a powerfully attractive spectacle with mysterious roots.

ERTZ's music forms the ideal background for this situation. Finally, you are left with the experience of the moment, that is like a beautiful image located between day and night, fire and sea, with the wind spreading the flames, and the sound and people coming together around something extraordinary in everyday life.
KLAT is a young group made up of Saini, Andrea, Konstantin and Massard. They work putting on a variety of exhibitions and events, make use of a sub-cultural background and project images about popular culture. Their activities include mural paintings, drawings, a fanzine library, recreating the inside of a cave, organising dynamic situations and performances in which the audience can take part, etc.
KLAT make use of a certain degree of group consciousness and try to work democratically and ethically to aim to establish a real exchange with people.
Kobak is a group linked to the experimental music festival ERTZ that takes place each year in the town of Bera in Navarre.
